Obituary of Eva Lebherz

LEBHERZ-Eva (Nee Altenhof ) at the age 97, passed away peacefully at Extendicare Tecumseh on Monday, March 5, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born on October 24, 1920 in New Pasua, Yugoslavia, to Jakob and Elisabeth (H"ndel) Altenhof. She married Philip Lebherz on April 23, 1940. Forced to flee their home in 1944 by the advancing Soviet Army, they resettled briefly in Austria and Germany, then immigrated to Canada in 1948, moving to Windsor in 1951. In their adopted country, they worked tirelessly to build a new life for themselves and their family. Eva was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church who was fiercely devoted to her family and her Lord. She especially loved gardening, baking, and reading her Bible. Eva was preceded in death by her husband Philip; brothers Jacob and George Altenhof, and sisters Elisabeth Altenhof and Katherine Maier; nieces Margaret Lebherz, Elizabeth Biasatti, and Katie Erdmann; and nephews Jack, George, and Stephen Altenhof. She is survived by her daughter Madeline (R Marc) Schwarz, grandson Marc (Julie) Schwarz, great-granddaughter Layna Schwarz, brother-in-law Jack Lebherz, niece Elizabeth Olsen, and nephew Alfred Lebherz. Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Central Chapel) 1700 Tecumseh Rd. East, on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Windsor Chapel, with burial to follow at Victoria Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
