SLEZIAK, John Radislav

September 10, 1932 - April 29, 2026

John R. Sleziak lived a life filled with love, laughter, creativity, and the family he cherished above all. On April 29th, 2026, he passed away peacefully at the age of 93, leaving a legacy of warmth that will live on in those who loved him.

Husband and life partner of his beloved Annie for 70 years. Devoted father of John (Cathy Duff), Alena (Tony Coughlin) and Darina (Scott McCrindle).

Loving and proud Staritata to grandchildren Michael (Meghan), Kathryn, Lauren (Shohei), Melissa, Eillish, Shea; step grandchildren Meaghan (Zac), Steven, James, Alexandra (Andrew) and great- granddaughters Zoey, Audrey and Ayla.

Predeceased by his parents Martin and Eva, sisters Annie Zelenak (Sam), Mary Seckar (Paul) and Margaret Glaser and brother-in-law Stephen Chopchik (Chris) and Gerald Janzer. Brother-in-law to Charles Glaser, Leita Vines (Harold), Larry Chopchik, Diane Day (Michael). John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John had a fulfilling career as a federal public servant with Employment and Immigration Canada. In 1953, he began his career as a Junior Clerk at the Canada Employment Centre, was union President then advanced through various management positions culminating as Acting Regional Director. He retired in 1989 after 36 years of dedicated service. Throughout his career, John was an active member of local organizations and charities, including Goodfellows, St. Clair College, the Windsor Men’s Press Club, the Windsor Foundation, and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce. His strong work ethic, dedication, and deep commitment to community were values he proudly modeled and passed on to his family and all those who had the privilege of working with him.

Outside of his work, John had an immense curiosity and a lifelong passion for learning, world affairs the environment and preservation of humanity. In retirement, he found great joy in reading, woodworking, stained glass creation, metal casting, gardening, antiquing and cooking. Above all he treasured spending time with Annie and his family. He was deeply proud of his Slovak heritage and took great care in passing along his traditions and values to his children and grandchildren.

Special thanks to the wonderful Alexis neighbors for their kindness, help, and support. Sincere thanks as well to the Amica team for their compassionate care shown to John this past year.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Rd E on Saturday May 9th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with a celebration of life tribute at 11:30. To view Livestream click HERE

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation or the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation.
