Terribly sad news. I only now found out. He was our family dentist from childhood to his retirement. There are few people I have warmer remembrances of. Always humming or whistling (Eternal Flame by the Bangles was a favourite), he made it so I not only never feared going to the dentist, as a kid -- but looked forward to it! Every time he said "Open wide like a tiger!", that was my moment! He'll be sorely missed. An icon of this city. There aren't many left. RIP, Dr. Siara. :(

It was with such great sorrow that I learned of John's passing. He was the "Dad" of our class and was a truly calming influence on we young and insecure classmates. His very presence taught me that one should always follows one's dreams. It must have been so challenging for John to balance school and family yet he did it with equanimity. I sat next to John in the first years of dental school and as a Romanian, they were exposed to Indian films from India. He once started singing an Indian song "Awara Hoon" which is a very famous Indian song. I have an Indian ancestry even though I was born in Uganda and came to Canada as a refugee. I was so surprised and still remember his jovial spirit and kind heart. He had a great sense of humour especially when we needed it most. A recent immigrant into Canada and quite young, I know that I was vulnerable. John helped me a lot. I have thought about him many times since graduation(1981). Here is a photo of him that I took with our fellow classmate and still a good friend of mine, Tony Pensak. My wife and I pray that John's soul may rest in eternal peace and that the family have the strength to bear the great loss. Amen

Siara Family, I am so sorry we were unable to make visitation however sending sincerest condolences on the passing of ‘Mr.Dr.Siara’ as I called him. We inherited our friendship from our families and it grew through the years from designing a forged iron gate, than in trusting us with the house design until the late playing rummy nights, when everyone new the end is near but we still enjoyed our company together at the best.
